OUR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

(This application is for both J1 visa students)

General
Our intern program is an exciting, total immersion program designed to involve students in as many of our dairy production and marketing activities as possible. Interns will help with the farm's dairy production work both in the cheese making room and in the aging cave. In addition, interns will be involved in many of the farm's marketing activities. including calling on chefs, talking to customers and attending several farmers markets per week in New jersey and in New York City.

Training
The training is hands-on in nature. The intern will work side by side with the cheese maker on a regular basis.

Compensation
We pay somewhere between $6.75 to $7.00/hr. Work weeks average 50-60 hrs.

Housing
Living accommodations are provided in a single family house on the farm with each intern sharing a bedroom with one other intern and with access to a shared kitchen, living room, and bathrooms. All utilities are paid for but not for air conditioning. However, interns are responsible for their own health insurance ,long distance transportation, and telephone costs. Interns are insured through their CIEE health plan and/or with workman's compensation for accidental injury while on the job. A vehicle is available on the farm for short travel to shopping etc.

Program Dates
Program dates are flexible and can start as early as May. Regardless of when you start, we ask that you stay at least thru the end of November. We may have shorter and longer periods available.

Internship Program Activities
We perform hundreds of jobs per week in different areas of the farm. To list them all is pointless but an estimate of 70-80 hours per week is not far from reality. Amongst the many functions we need help with are:
Visitor tour guide and retail shop help: Help will be needed for special events, dinners and meetings.
Dairy production: cheesemaking support for the prodution of many of our 20+ cheeses, aging cave help including turning, brushing and rind maintenance.
Special chef and restaurant events
Farmer markets: Drive to, set-up and sell our products at several farmer markets per week.
